Although Adam has enjoyed
playing sports since childhood he has not always enjoyed training for
them. It was not until he attended basic
training at Ft. Benning, Georgia that he was introduced to a regimented,
purposeful exercise program. He would be in the wrong to say that there
was an immediate love for it. But after weeks of hard work he began
to see improvements in strength, endurance and body composition. This
only fueled him to push himself (with the help of some of the U.S.
Army’s finest Drill Sergeants) harder than he ever had.
After
completing his military training Adam attended Illinois State University
where he was introduced to weightlifting. He was hooked.
So much so that he changed his major to Exercise Science and Fitness.
He wanted to learn as much about exercise and fitness as he could
in hopes of bettering himself and ultimately, others.
Adam
initially had great desire in working with athletes. He accepted
an internship in Florida where he worked with a number of athletes
ranging from youth to professional. Upon completion of his internship
he moved back to the Midwest where he continued working exclusively
with athletes. After a few months he wanted the challenge of working
with a variety of clients possessing different skills and abilities
and having unique goals. He took a job at a facility in the Chicagoland
area where he could do just that.
Adam
brought his family and over five years of exercise, sport and fitness
experience to Nashville
in the summer of 2006. He continues
to bring his passion, knowledge, motivation and expertise to
every client and every session.
Q&A
provided by Drew Walen of The City Paper.
What
did you think you'd be doing by this time in your life?
That
would have depended upon what age I was when asked that question;
a father of a baby girl living in Nashville? No way! Really?! Yep.
What are you a "sucker" for?
I’m a sucker for my daughter.
I fear that she already has me wrapped around
her tiny little finger.
What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?
My mother gave birth to me. That was pretty nice, don’t
you think?
What quote guides your life?
A number of different
scripture verses
guide my life. One that guides my work
is Colossians 3:23. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as
working for the Lord, not for men.”
What would you like to do but are too
chicken to try?
Anything
that pertains to heights: base-jumping, sky-diving, rappelling, rock-climbing,
etc.
What do you crave?
I
crave a Dr. Pepper from a two-liter bottle poured over a tall, plastic
cup of ice.
What wouldn't you be caught dead wearing?
A
dress? No, I’ve worn that. A speedo? Nope, that too. A cowboy hat? Live
in Nashville. I’ll eventually have to try it. I got it! A wrestling
singlet.
What did God forget to include when
he designed you?
He gave me plenty of ear (unfortunately not to listen
any better) and feet (size 13). The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh
away. I ain’t gonna’ say he forgot anything. I am grateful
for what I got.
What advice did your mother/father
give you about the opposite sex?
My aunt
told me you have to see a girl wet because that helps to reveal her
true physical beauty. Or maybe meant I should see her in a swimsuit
first.
What would others be surprised to know about you?
The only class I ever failed
in school was Physical Education. Oh, the irony.
If
you could have a talent you don't already have, what would it be?
Tickle the ivory.
I wish I could play the piano. I am a big fan of Bruce Hornsby.
Who should play you in the movies?
If Jim Carrey,
Kevin James and Vince Vaughn could produce a love-child, that’d
be good.
What does your favorite bumper sticker say?
What if the
Hokey-Pokey IS what it’s all about?
Describe a good day.
Wake up early rested, have a quiet time with God, eat right, have
a good workout, give my best during my training sessions (in hopes
that my clients give their best, too), play nine holes of golf in the
late afternoon, go home and love on my girls. That is a good day.
What music do you listen to when you work out?
I am a big
fan of big hair bands of the late ‘80s, early ‘90s. If I like
a song in my car, apartment, wherever, I’m gonna’ like
it when I workout.
What assumption do people make about you that isn’t true?
That I played soccer or ran
track. Hey, look at the skinny kid with great calves. |
